About Aust Schmiechen, P.A.

Brian Aust has been a practicing attorney for more than 12 years. In 2000, he graduated from Hamline University School of Law in St. Paul and was admitted to the Minnesota State Bar in October 2000. He is also admitted to practice before the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals. Brian works on all types of immigration cases. He represents individuals in family based immigration matters (marriage cases, fiancé(e) and other petitions), people applying for asylum, employment based immigration including H-1B and Labor Certifications, removal (deportation) defense and naturalization. Brian also has a special interest in representing GLBT clients.

Before joining Malinda Schmiechen, Brian owned his own practice for more than 5 years. Brian is an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA). He served as the chapter liaison between the immigration bar and the St. Paul Field Office of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services for 2 years and planned the local AILA chapter annual conferences on immigration law the last 4 years. Brian is fluent in Spanish.

Malinda Schmiechen is licensed to practice law in Minnesota and for over twenty years, has been dedicated to improving the lives of people born outside the United States. Malinda understands the stress and strain of living outside your home country and traveling abroad because she lived in the former Yugoslavia and Poland and has visited countries in Africa, Central America, Asia and Europe. Malinda speaks Russian, Polish, and some Croatian. Malinda is the former Chair of the Minnesota Dakotas American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA). Malinda is also a current Adjunct Professor of Law at Mitchell Hamline School of Law, teaching Immigration and Nationality Law as well as International Human Rights Law.
